Meet Haifa People: David Baron – Urban Sketcher and Painter
David Baron, born 1944, Romania (Yassi), immigrated to Israel in 1961. He studied art at the Fine Arts College in his hometown. He also graduated in Architecture and Town Planning at Technion (PhD). Though an architect by profession David defines himself as a painter by passion.
As a member of the Israel Painters and Sculptors Association, David participated at many group exhibitions at Chagall Artists House in Haifa and Tel Aviv.
Although he lives in Kiryat Motzkin, Haifa is his activity centre, either as a teacher at the Faculty of Architecture (Technion) or as a Haifa urban sketcher.
He loves Haifa cityscape and people. “I love the very special mixture of mountain and sea, the mosaic of Jews and Arabs living together and creating a multi-level inspiring atmosphere. My preferred subjects are the urbanscape, architecture and the human figure in various activities and aspects treated in a figurative style”, said David.
From 2014 on, he works mainly on digital media, namely on Apple iPad , using various graphic applications.
During this pandemics time he adapted to the virtual reality and continues to pursue the same subjects but on-line, participating either at virtual travel sketch meetings or at life drawing online sessions with artists from around the world.
He collaborates with Hai-Po local news site by posting illustrations about events and social activities in Haifa.
Also, David posts regularly present and past works on various Facebook sites around the world as well on Haifa Artists Facebook group.
